Sadly, Royalen is precisely the kind of casino site that many people warn about: unproven, untrustworthy, unlicensed, and overall, extremely shady. We’ll explain our reasoning about this a bit further in our review, but we found no evidence that this is a legitimate, trustworthy online casino and plenty of red flags to suggest it’s not. While we ultimately urge all players to trust their gut and rely on their instinct more than the word of any reviewer (including ourselves), we wouldn’t trust Royalen with our own money.

Who is the Royalen Casino’s owner?

After a lot of investigation, we weren’t able to find who owns and operates Royalen. The casino’s site is pretty barebones when it comes to that kind of information (you’d normally find it in the footer), but we typically still have our ways of investigating and finding out through other means. Alas, this time those ways have failed us, which leads us to believe that the lack of information on the site isn’t a mere oversight, but a deliberate attempt at concealing the casino’s owner. There is no good reason for wanting to hide that information from the public. Imagine if you were buying milk, but it didn’t say which company had produced and distributed it – why would they hide that unless they were afraid you’d sue if you got sick?

Just as we weren’t able to find out who operates Royalen, we also couldn’t discover whether it’s licensed – but our assumption is that it isn’t. We checked pretty much every publicly available license registry searching for proof that Royalen is licensed (and perhaps a clue towards its parent company), but alas, ended up with nothing. We’ve seen other reviewers mention a Costa Rica license, but that’s a business license, not a gambling one – meaning it’s basically a fancy way of saying “unlicensed.” And while we couldn’t find any evidence that even pointed towards a Costa Rica registration, we ultimately agree with the conclusion.

A casino needs to have a license not just for silly legal reasons, but also because the regulator who issued that license acts as a safety net to help resolve disputes from players. Imagine Royalen said “no, sorry, we’re not gonna pay out your winnings, we just don’t feel like it” – under normal circumstances, you’d be able to go to their regulator (for example Curacao), report them for scamming you, and Curacao could ask them to make the situation right or else risk losing their license. But as Royalen is already unlicensed, they have nothing to lose, and there’s no one you can ask for help. The only people you can ask for help are the casino’s own support team, and you can imagine how that would go.
