Carte (Blackjack term)

In the game of blackjack, “carte” is the French word for “card”. This term is used to indicate that the player wants to be dealt an additional card, or “hit”, in order to improve their hand. In blackjack, players are dealt two initial cards, and then have the option to “hit” or “stand” based on the strength of their hand. If a player has a weak hand, they may choose to “hit” in the hopes of improving it, whereas if they have a strong hand, they may choose to “stand” and keep their current cards. The term “carte” is often used at the blackjack table to signal to the dealer that the player wants to be dealt another card. It is also used in other card games, such as poker and baccarat, to indicate the desire for an additional card.
